Wild Rift Support Guide
The Support role in Wild Rift is the backbone of the team, enabling success for the ADC in lane and providing utility, vision, and engage/disengage tools throughout the game. While most supports may not deal the most damage, their contributions in controlling the map, protecting teammates, and setting up plays often define the outcome of a match. This guide will focus on the fundamental concepts on how to master the role through wave control, vision management, team fight positioning, and objective control.
Trading and Lane Pressure
Your primary role in the early game is to influence the bot lane matchup. Depending on your champion and your ADC’s playstyle, your approach will vary:
Engage Supports (Leona, Nautilus, Thresh): Look for opportunities to engage when the enemy ADC or support mispositions. Coordinate with your ADC to ensure they follow up on your crowd control for maximum damage. Pay attention to minion waves, fighting in a large enemy wave can quickly turn trades against you.
Poke Supports (Zyra, Brand, Karma): Harass the enemy ADC and support whenever they step up for CS. Use your range advantage to chip away at their health, forcing them to play defensively. Be mindful of mana management to avoid running out of resources.
Enchanters (Lulu, Janna, Soraka): Focus on keeping your ADC healthy and scaling for later fights. Use shields, heals, and disengage tools to protect your lane partner from engages or enemy poke.
Positioning is key in trades. Stand slightly ahead of your ADC to zone the enemy bot lane, but avoid overcommitting and exposing yourself to skill shots or crowd control. If the enemy bot lane is playing aggressively, position defensively and punish them when they overextend.
Roaming
As a support, your role isn’t to just babysit your ADC, but to enable your entire team.
Look to roam and create pressure on the map. You should play with your jungler when he is looking for early fights or invades, being the first to rotate to these fights will give your team a huge advantage. Additionally, you can rotate mid to assist your mid laner in pushing waves or ganking overextended enemies. Use your utility and crowd control to set up kills or force Summoner Spells.
When roaming always ensure your ADC is safe before leaving lane. If the wave is pushed and your adc is safe, it’s a good time to roam.
Teamfighting
Your role in team fights varies based on your champion, but the fundamentals remain the same: protect your carries, control the fight, and maximize your utility.
Peeling for Carries
As a support, your carries (ADC and mid laner) are your highest priority. Use crowd control, heals, and shields to keep them alive. For example:
Engage Supports: Lock down divers or assassins trying to kill your carries.
Enchanters: Shield and heal your carries while using disengage tools to push back enemy threats.
Engaging Fights
If your champion excels at engaging (e.g., Nautilus, Leona), look for opportunities to catch priority targets. Always communicate with your team before engaging and ensure your carries are in a position to follow up.
Disrupting the Enemy Team
Tanks and disruptor supports (e.g., Alistar, Braum) excel at creating chaos in fights. Focus on interrupting enemy abilities, zoning their carries, and absorbing damage for your team.
