Kassadin Guide Wild Rift

I am Royal, I am an ex Pro player and content creator. Kassadin is one of my most-played champions and probably my best Champion. In this guide, we will break down his build, combos, and game strategy, analyzing all game phases.

Kassadin Build Wild Rift

Items

Starting item: Amplyfing tome, in some hard matchups (like Lucian mid) you can go ruby crystal + second wind combo.

  1. Boots of Mana: Always rush boots, the stats it gives for 1400g are too good.

  2. Tear of the Goddess: Kassadin is extremely mana-hungry due to the high mana cost of his ultimate, which also scales with mana, so tear is a must-build on Kassadin every game.

  3. Rod of Ages: If the enemies are tankier and you won’t make good use of Infinity Orb or you just want to play full scaling, you can build Tear -> Rod of Ages -> Finish Archangel’s staff.

  4. Seraph’s Embrace: Finish your tear item. At this point you should be very close to finishing stacking your tear or it might even already be stacked.

  5. Rabaddon’s Deathcap: Deathcap is a must-have as it will maximize your damage. You want to finish Deathcap just before reaching level 13.

  6. Finish Stasis: A perfect tool to wait for your cooldowns. It allows Kassadin to dive deep, use his spells, use stasis, and when he comes out of it his ultimate will be back up to escape or continue to chase.

  7. Crown of the Shattered Queen: An extremely useful defensive item, similar to Stasis, Kassadin can use his combo and by the time the crown damage reduction ends, he can ult to safety or continue the chase.

  8. Riftmaker: A great late-game option, gives you some sustain so you no longer need to base for HP. All the stats you get work great for Kassadin and the bonus true damage passive will help win the long late-game teamfights.

Situational:
Infinity Orb: Kassadin’s base damages are incredibly high, so flat magic penetration and a 20% damage increase are very good on him. You can build this later in the game or replace Rod of Ages with Infinity Orb for an earlier powerspike.

Hextech Soulstealer: Another good choice to replace Rod of Ages, it won’t give you as much damage as infinity orb, but it will give you a lot more utility with lower cooldowns and make you slightly tankier.

Lichbane: If you just want more burst for the late game you can replace RiftMaker with Lichbane.

Runes

There’s 3 different rune pages that are good on Kassadin. You always want to take First Strike, this will increase your burst damage while giving you extra gold to reach your powerspikes sooner.

In hard matchups go for the resolve tree, this will allow you to survive the laning phase so you can dominate the game later.
Nullyfing orb for survivability, Second Wind vs poke or Boneplatting vs burst, both are good depending on the matchup, Overgrowth unless enemies have a lot of CC then Perseverance. Lastly, Sudden Impact.

If the Lane is very easy and you just want to scale, go for Gathering Storm, Giant Slayer or Coup de Grace depending on what Champions the enemy team has, if they have champions that build a lot of HP go Giant Slayer, otherwise Coup. Legend: Bloodline normally, Legend: Tenacity if the enemies have a lot of CC, and Sudden impact.

Your last option which is somewhere in between scaling and defensive, is more utility-focused.
Sweet Tooth keeps you healthy in lane while giving you a lot of extra gold. Especially if the first dragon is Ocean and there are honey fruits everywhere, the gold income adds up. Transcendence is going to allow you to use your combo more often which helps a lot in teamfights. Ixtali Seedjar synergiezes extremely well with sweet tooth as you get double the plants. Lastly, Sudden impact, Boneplatting, or Second Wind depending on the matchup.

Ability Order

  1. Riftwalk (Ultimate)

  2. Force Pulse (3rd Ability) - Max first for wave clear

  3. Null Sphere (1st Ability) - Most damage

  4. Nether Blade (2nd Ability)

Summoner Spells

Flash - It’s op and pretty obvious why you should use flash

Ignite = more damage.

Situational: Exhaust is good vs Zed, Fizz, Akali, Diana, Katarina, Jayce. However, even in these matchups ignite is usually a better choice so you can punish them harder when they make mistakes.

Combos

Kassadin doesn’t have many fancy combos, he is pretty easy to use mechanically. Here is what you need to know.

Main Combo: Ult in, 1st ability for the instant silence, then 3rd ability for the slow and then use your 2nd ability. In certain situations, you might want to use your 3rd ability for the AOE slow first so your team can catchup.

You can use your Ultimate then Flash to extend the range. The damage of the ultimate will still go through. This is very useful for catching enemies off guard and picking up easy kills from a distance. You can do this with your 1st and 3rd abilities too but it won’t commonly use it.

Game Strategy

Early Game

Kassadin’s early game can be split into 2 phases, before he gets his ult and after. Before you hit level 5 your only goal is to survive and last hit as many minions as possible. You do not win any matchups at this point. Avoid taking as much damage as you can and feel free to use your spells to last hit from range. If possible try to get some first strike gold by hitting the enemy.

After you get your ultimate you can start trading more aggressively in winning matchups. Kassadin can win trades against most mages if he plays them correctly. Ideally wait until they waste spells on the wave and jump in with your ultimate for an easy trade. Your Silence and Slow should make it hard for them to trade back. In losing matchups just continue to play safe and farm. Be careful on how you use your ult, it is your only escape. While you are quite weak in the early game and rarely get priority, your roams are very strong with your AOE slow and silence, so if you do have opportunities to roam, take advantage of them. Keep in mind that you are the best scaling champion in the game, so going even is a great outcome for you.

Mid Game

In the mid game your main goal is to farm as much as you can, you move through the map extremely quickly with your ultimate so you can gather resources fast while staying ahead in tempo. Your goal needs to be to reach 3 items and level 13 before the 3rd dragon spawns. At this point in the game you also have enough damage to burst squishy targets. If they have exhaust, any kind of magic resist, or flash you won’t be able to one-shot them from full HP so never go in solo, since you will easily get caught out after using your spells. Wait for your team to set-up plays for you so you can hit your damage and be safe around your team. Don’t feel pressured to take fights, your main goal is still to scale to 3 items + lvl 13.

Late Game / Teamfights

This is where Kassadin can truly shine, if you have managed to hit your powerspikes, you will be the strongest champion in the game. Abuse your ultimate to quickly get around the map and catch out of position targets. Any pick at this point in the game will be a 40+ second deathtimer and a huge advantage for your team. You should have enough damage to one-shot all squishy champions with ease, and enough mobility to run away from any champion you can’t one-shot. In teamfights you want to be in a flanking position, jump in with your ultimate when you find your chance and one-shot the priority targets. Stasis immediately and then your ult will be back up to escape or continue the chase. Be careful not to overcommit without defensive tools like stasis and crown. Kassadin is great at cleaning up fights so make sure you play with your team and you don’t get focused and taken down first. Your silence is an invaluable tool in these late game teamfights and can completely shut down certain champions, use it wisely.

Matchups

Kassadin Counters

Irelia, Yasuo, Jayce, Zed, Tristana, Lucian, Yone, Akshan, and even bruisers like Renekton or Garen mid.
Kassadin has a very hard time against most AD champions. His passive shield is useless and silence isn’t as effective since a lot of their damage comes from autoattacks. In these matchups you need to play very careful. Aim to scale and wait for them to make mistakes you can punish.

Easy

Katarina, Ahri, Syndra, Ekko, Morgana, Zoe, Ziggs, Brand, Lux, Vladimir, Fizz, etc.
Kassadin completely counters most mages, his passive shield helps you win most trades, your ultimate allows you to easily get on top of mages which is their main weakness, and your silence completely shuts them down. His silence also completely shuts down AP assassins like Ekko, Katarina, and Fizz.
